About

Hello! I am Shanelle Serrato, a Mexican illustrator based in Southern California. I've always been drawn to the world of visual storytelling, inspiring me to daydream, doodle and create. This lead me to pursue illustration, so that I can capture story and build worlds through my vibrant artwork. Story is what connects people, it is how we learn, entertain, and inspire.

In 2022, I participated in Las Musas’ mentorship program where Latinx illustrators/writers, like myself, had the opportunity to be mentored in the KidLit/picture book industry by an industry professional.

Currently, I was reward the We Need Diverse Books 2023 Illustration Mentorship, were I will get the opportunity to work with another mentor for a year. The mentorship will consist of learning and developing my craft through my mentor’s experience in the Kidlit and publishing industry.
